About Us
Buying
We buy the finest, highest grade green (un-roasted) coffee available anywhere. In order to do this, we roast and cup (taste) several samples from a number of brokers before buying. Only the best coffee survives this screening process.
Roasting
We hand roast all of our coffee in small batches. Our roasters develop a unique time and temperature profile for each coffee. Much like wine varietals, coffees from different countries have unique flavor characteristics due to soil and climate variations. It is the roasters job to find those characteristics and coax them out time and time again. As some flavors develop, others are lost forever. This blend of art and science takes years of practice to master, and is a constant learning process. We evaluate the outcome of the roasting process every day during a rigorous cupping.
Freshness
Coffee is unique in that it stays fresh in its un-roasted form for months but once roasted it looses flavor rapidly. We roast to order in small batches to ensure freshness, and would never sell coffee that we wouldn’t drink ourselves.
Education
As a member of the Specialty Coffee Association of America, Great Plains Coffee management has the opportunity of attend national events. Our roastmaster is a member of the Roasters Guild and attends the annual Roasters Guild Retreat along with the best roasters in the world. We pass this information on to our staff and customers at every opportunity.
